Chef Carroll Introduces “Fruit of the Month” to Hilton Anaheim

October 24, 2011

We recently introduced our new Executive Chef, Kyung Soo Carroll to you and he’s bringing a whole new approach to our hotel’s kitchen! One of his new ideas is to feature a “Fruit of the Month”! This month, Chef is featuring the fruit Rambutans! Have you heard of it? Here is Chef’s thoughts on this month’s fruit!

Fruit of the Month

Note from the Chef

This month I am Featuring Rambutan

I was first introduced to this fruit  in my culinary travels and work in Bangkok Thailand. Rambutan’s, are an oval shaped 3–6 cm tropical fruit in the Sapindaceae (Evergreen tree) family . It is native to Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits such as a lychee.

The leathery skin is reddish and covered with fleshy pliable spines, hence the name rambutan, derived from the Malay word rambut which means hairs. The fruit flesh is translucent with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor.

Great to eat while sipping a glass of Chardonnay!

OC Forever Summer Artist Search Culminates with Big City Celebration!

October 11, 2011

Hilton Anaheim recently celebrated the end of the OC Forever Summer Artist Search with a huge soiree to unveil the art that now enhances the walls of our recently renovated pool area of our hotel.

After months of searching with the help of our friends at MUZEO for artists who conveyed the OC Forever Summer  theme through their renderings,  three incredibly talented artists were chosen and immediately got to work on what is today, one-of-a-kind works of art on the walls of our hotel pool area! A special thanks goes out to our friends at the Orange County Tourism Council for coming up with such a great tagline to represent our community.

The unveiling event was a huge success as the city of Anaheim came out in droves to support the hotel’s community involvement in the arts including Anaheim’s very own, Mayor Tom Tait who received a self portrait painted by one of the winners.

The event also featured a performance from Battle of The Dance which was the perfect compliment to a night dedicated to the Arts!

Come visit Hilton Anaheim and see these works of art for yourself!

The Eli Home for Abused Children Honors Hilton Anaheim with the Cariño Award at the Annual Caribbean Midsummer Night Fundraiser

July 26, 2011

The event, hosted by The Palms Casino -a Maloof Casino & Resort- was filled with excitement as over 300 guests poured into the Hilton Anaheim to celebrate the outstanding community support that this organization has provided women and children for over 25 years.

The evening kicked off with a bang as a silent auction was displayed in the foyer of the California Grand Ballroom while  a live reggae band played, delicious food was served and beautiful Hawaiian style necklaces were given to all the ladies in attendance and beaded lays were given to all the men!

Following the opening festivities was the speech of Palms Hotel owner, George Maloof who was in town to thank Eli Home for being a sanctuary to many in the Orange County area and to say a few words about the Sacramento Kings and their possible move to Anaheim.

Needless to say, everyone listened intently in the hopes to hear Mr. Maloof share some good news. Unfortunately, all the room heard was “we’ll see what happens”. Nonetheless, everyone from Eli Home for Abused Children were incredibly grateful for his $25,000 sponsorship and hope to continue to build that relationship.

After Maloof’s speech, the presentation of the Cariño Award was presented. This award is the highest honor that Eli Home presents to an outstanding group, person, organization or company that has shown unequivocal support to their cause throughout the years. This year, we were humbled with this honor. The Hilton Anaheim team watched proudly as Lorri Galloway, Executive Director of Eli Home presented Shaun Robinson, General Manager of the hotel with a beautiful plaque and a heart warming thank you for the hotel’s support  over the last 16 years.

A delectable dinner and a auction with professional auctioneer kept everyone at the event in high spirits as music began to play and the dance floor filled up with Anaheim’s finest including Mayor Tom Tait, Council Members Gale Eastman, Kris Murray and the rest of the amazing supporters of Eli home making this one of the organizations more successful events to date!  The Anaheim Hilton family would like to once again thank Eli Home for the incredible honor and look forward to supporting the organization for many years to come!
